Citizens 4 A Strong Fairmont is an informal group of local citizens from Fairmont and Martin County, Minnesota. We conduct research and prepare studies to provide information to our fellow citizens about local, county and state economics, public policy, and government. We believe that experience and knowledge, together, are the tools that help us develop viable solutions for the future of our community. 

Our vision is to encourage an environment which fosters economic strength via an educated citizenry and local entrepreneurship. The historic building blocks of our area, the principals of free market capitalism and personal responsibility, are so ingrained in us that we forget they exist. Citizens 4 A Strong Fairmont is bringing them back to the forefront for the prosperity, future growth, and sustainability of Fairmont and Martin County.

We believe that a community has the most opportunity for success when people have two things: 1) shared common beliefs in their basic moral values; and 2) the means for achieving personal and corporate fiscal responsibility. We share an understanding and respect in the principles upon which this nation was formed. The Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution together comprise a national covenant of the people, by the people, and for the people.

Our mission is to educate our community with accurate facts and well-conducted research, in order to present sustainable solutions. It’s that plain. It’s that simple. Robust truths implemented well, and dealt with courageously, will lead to positive, sustainable outcomes. The issues affecting our general welfare, our local economy, and our social institutions deserve nothing less.

It is our mission to provide the thorough and accurate information that is necessary for citizens to make informed decisions about whether local capital and non-capital projects are worthy of their support. Social programs require community wisdom and sound application of proven principles. Local entrepreneurship and business development need these elements to flourish. Our mission, simply stated, is encapsulated in these words,

The late W. Edwards Deming, considered the most significant expert in the field of quality management during the 20th century, explained that being able to understand and describe the process you use for doing your work, is absolutely essential to achieving what you set out to accomplish.

Our research involves identifying, collecting, and organizing data into information that presents a coherent story for the public. This enables the citizens of Fairmont and Martin County to understand and participate in the development of mutually agreed upon public policies that impact their way of life, their cost of living, and their general welfare.

Our process involves seven simple steps.

• Identify the need of the community;

• Conduct research to collect information about the need and its issues;

• Evaluate that information and determine what it is telling us about the issues we face as a community;

• Determine the viable options for meeting those needs;

• Prepare the research and potential solutions for presentation to the public;

• Obtain feedback, make necessary corrections and revisions;

• Develop thoughtful recommendations and plans to promote a flourishing community.
